The Oyler Family Blog

Sadly, we are several states away from family and friends. But, we KNOW that they long to hear our mundane stories and self-righteous opinions. Never fear, friends- you can stay informed right here.

Honeymoon

So, here are some pictures from the honeymoon. The room was great and amazing and it was right along the beach. We had a beautiful view of the Pacific right out on our balcony. It was so great! The waves were like nothing I've ever seen before outside our hotel room window. They were, like 10-15 feet high at some times. You aren't even allowed to swim in the ocean. You can swim on the other side of the hotel in the Sea of Cortes.

When we arrived on Sunday night we just relaxed and went down to the beach. Monday we actually did a timeshare presentation next door at the Playa Grande, a 5 star-hotel and sister hotel to the Sol Mar (where we were staying), because that gave us credit at our hotel to get drinks and food, and also discounts on activities. We also snuck into their hotel pool which was on top of the roof with views of the Sea of Cortes on one side and the Pacific on the other side. Pretty nuts.

When we were done there we relaxed and headed over to Lovers Beach via glass-bottom boat. It was very cool and you are allowed to swim there, so we did our swimming in the ocean. At Lovers Beach there is this cave where they say "two go in- three come out." I think that's creepy. Who wants to make a baby in a cave? We didn't make a baby in that cave. Mainly because I'm scared of caves like I'm scared of everything else and we didn't even go in it. Monday night more relaxing and dinner out in the fun downtown area. It is all very close. Cabo Wabbo (Sam Hagar's bar) is there. We didn't go...because Cameron started to feel sick. And that's when the honeymoon became really fun!

Tuesday we got up around 9 and were going to go on this half-day boating excursion; a ship that takes you out to snorkel and the trip is "all you can drink" with lunch included. Prior to getting on the boat Cameron was still feeling a little funky. When we headed out things got really nasty. Cameron was violently ill on the side of the boat for around 2 hours. It was amazing! I went snorkeling for a minute, got bored without Cam, and swam back to the boat. I should make it clear that the boat wasn't the reason he was sick- we just HAPPENED to be on the boat when he got really sick. Poor guy. That made it even worse. We were stuck on this stupid boat and he couldn't just go lay down somewhere comfy. Terrible!

After that we headed back to the hotel. Cam slept and was sick all night. I went to the pool and walking on the beach a little.

Wednesday we had plans to tandem parasail, but Cam wasn't feeling up to much of anything. Instead, we went to the pool and relaxed. I had drinks. Cam still couldn't eat anything. I think he had his first bite of food around 3 or 4. The first bite of food he'd had for 2 days. Poor baby!

That night we ate Italian food at a really nice restaurant for free (because we did that timeshare presentation). It was delicious!

Cameron spoke Spanish the entire time we were there and he was awesome! He got a lot of compliments from the Spanish-speaking people there on how good his accent was. But, most of the people there also spoke English so that was nice.

I just made the honeymoon sound terrible didn't I? It wasn't. We got to do a lot of relaxing. It just wasn't everything you dream a honeymoon would be because you don't anticipate your new spouse getting violently ill. It was like the plot of a Ben Stiller movie but int he movie his new wife would fall in love with someone else. That didn't happen, fortunately. And the trip was really great and beautiful. And the location was SO BEAUTIFUL. I recommend it. I liked having the ocean and activities all right there but also a great nightlife (which we actually didn't get to enjoy as much as we might have liked) right there. It's great for people who like a bit of everything.

Here are some pics!

Sunset out of our hotel room window overlooking mountain side

I love this panoramic function! Panoramic of sunset from poolside/oceanside

The view from our hotel room balcony

This is right next to our hotel on the beach. It's actually wear the original Planet of the Apes was shot. You might recognize it as where the Statue of Liberty thing was?

Only picture of us together. Poolside.

Sunset from our hotel.

The view looking at the Sea of Cortes (and marina) from the top of the Playa Grande pool

Me at the Playa Grande pool. (Plus sweet vacation afro)

Same except that's the Pacific in the background

Anyway, it was an AMAZING time. Oh, and for Cathy (and anyone else who is interested) below is a video I shot on my camera of the hotel room so you could see where we are staying. You can view it by just clicking play. It has sound also.

Anyway, I guess that's it for now. I will write soon again. I'll also re-invite Cam to the blog so that he can start posting...as he said he was going to do 3 months ago. Lame!

Love you all,

Lins

I LOVE this video function on my camera. I didn't realize that the video would turn out so clear with such great sound quality. I'm going to start taping a lot more things!
