Sadly, we are several states away from family and friends. But, we KNOW that they long to hear our mundane stories and self-righteous opinions. Never fear, friends- you can stay informed right here.

Wu Deck
These are images of the deck we will be building for Jenny's parents. We're working on a more detailed model, but this shows the basic scheme.
We're doing the construction ourselves...both of the guys that are working for us plus myself - July through August for construction.
Clear finish redwood is the current frontrunner for material. We considered cedar but we prefer the richer color of the redwood - cedar is also more expensive. your standard pressure treated lumber was also an option but the look of the redwood was also much nicer. We went into it thinking we would use a composite lumber, but with a little rearch we realized that the composites are not to be used as a structural material - only decking. So if we used it, it would be in combination with some other "real" lumber." the combination didn't sit well with us.
We are also pouring concrete curbs at the deck level, and a couple of board form concrete walls to support the table/stands/planters, and a concrete ramp at the yard side of the deck. We will probably set the formwork ourselved and have their neighbor/contractor help us with the pour.
