Sadly, we are several states away from family and friends. But, we KNOW that they long to hear our mundane stories and self-righteous opinions. Never fear, friends- you can stay informed right here.

New York News

So...Cameron and I are amping up for our trip to New York City March 14-19. We just added a really cool thing to our list of awesome things that we are doing. I thought that I would share.

First of all, we are staying at a hotel in midtown. We are not staying with friends, which rocks. Secondly, on March 15 we are going to see Spamelot and we have like Orchestra seating. Awesome. Lastly- just got the confirmation yesterday- we are going to a live taping of The Colbert Report on March 15. It's Steve Colbert's fake news show that is on Comedy Central. It's kindof like The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. We are SO EXCITED! I also have a friend who is interning on the Conan O'Brien show that we are trying to get to help us tickets. Awesome,

By the way- Dwayne you still haven't suggested any places for us to go check out...like bars and restaurants and whatnot.

Let's see. The places I love a not necessarily to "best of New York." I love the places that can only be found in New York, are inexpensive, and are really active. Also...I could name many more, but you should give me a neighborhood in order for me to make specific recommendations.

    restuarants:

    To Name a few-
Zumschneider...a German beer hall at the corner of Avenue C and 6th street. Very busy, outdoor seating, beer, ber, beer, the best Vienerschnitzel in the city. Svhnitzel? $15 ?, large beers $7

    Na Trang
Vietnamese Restuarant in Chinatown. Jenny and I ate there religiously for years. It is a very inexpensive and almost everything is good... agreat place for lunch. Nothing fancy or especially nice about the place...but good, reliable, inexpensive sit down lunches can be hard to find in the city. Vermicelli with grilled beef is always a good choice..around $5.

    Sea.
A Thai Restuarant in the East Village. A very small, active place, with a hip young clientel. Good food and a coll atmosphere. Inexpensive at around $10- $12 a plate. 2nd Avenue between 3rd and 4th? streets.

    Supper.
A little more expensive, but seriously good Italian food. This place is really cool, and not necessarily traditional Italian. Cool neighborhood, usually a wait on a friday or Saturday night(which can be done in the bar they own next door). Dishes are around $16.

    Orlogio.
A few blocks away at Avenue A between 10th and 1th street. Not as cool, but less expensive at about $12 a plate.

    Picolo Angelo.
An amazing traditional Italian place. Suoer traditional, amazing food, great price. A nice place with good Italian atmosphere. This is what Little Italy is supposed to be like (but this is located in the west Village near Hudson and Jane streets). The seafood salad is incredible at about $9. All of the entrees are good. I strongly recommend you make a reservation for this place as it is very small.

Midtown...good luck finding a good inexpensive restuarant... The area is very nice during the day, and it primarily caters to businessmen with loads of cash. Close to their I can recommend little Korea town on 36th street... a good Korean place called Hanbat (about $11 a plate (great meat dishes). Also one of cooolest places in town - The Brasserie in the bottom of the Seagrams building at 53rd and Lexington. Not cheap, but a really cool place.

    Drinks:

    The Room
A small bar in the middle of Soho was always my favorite bar. I belive it is on McDougal or Sullivan streets between Houston and Prince. Very cozy couches, too cool cleintel, and great beer and wine selection.

    The Art bar...
I think that this is where we went before? Your standard bar up fron...lounge area in the back. Near Hudson and 13th street?

If you are into the extravagant, I have heard one cool thing to do is to go to the bar at the top of Rockefeller Center. You will probabaly pay $10 for a beer, but it may be worth it to have a beer at the top of the world.

    Parks:

Washington Square Park and Union Square are great active places downtown. I don't need to mention the other one.

    Shops:

Soho for amazing stuff at prices that will knock you over.

The best place to buy inexpensive name brands is a place called Century 21. I believe it is on Cortland? street adjacent to the world trade center site. You will not find a place with more selection and cheaper prices than here.

Electronics, music, gadgets...a couple of blocks away at J&R music. They have taken over the entire block, which many storefronts for each thing they sell...from cameras to Ipods, to CD's. Really reliable place.

    Misc. Neighborhoods:

Soho is a must for the coolest people in town.

Chinatown is a madhouse that must be experiences.

East village and Lower East side. is for the to cool to live in Soho crown. Uncombed hair, brown t-shirt, and low rise jeans must be worn in order to enter this neighborhood.

    West Village
A lovely little neighborhood with everything from restaurants to bars etc.

    Theater district
There are undoubteldy hangouts in this area for the young theater crowd, but I'm not so well versed in the scene. Not really the nicest neighborhood...pretty gritty.

What else are you looking for? specific neighborhoods Your question is a little like "Can you recommend something boring to do in Coffeyville?" :)

Dwayne- this is EXCELLENT. I would also like to take him to all of the bars and restaurants that are really cool for someone who has never been there.

Also- I'm sure Jenny could help us out with this. We need places to go dance. All kinds of dancing...we just want to be able to get in. Not TOO exclusive. You know? He doesn't want to have to dress up.

It seems like there is something else. I'll get back to you.

    Thanks for the help!
