The Oyler Family Blog

Sadly, we are several states away from family and friends. But, we KNOW that they long to hear our mundane stories and self-righteous opinions. Never fear, friends- you can stay informed right here.

The "Windy" City...

...should be renamed the "Really Erratic Weather Pattern City".

Right now there is a tornado in Southern Chicago. It has been storming for days, with brief intervals of overcast skies. I mean, come on...this is EXACTLY like Kansas weather except it's only in the 80s.

It looks like the apocalypse outside right now. The power went out a few minutes ago. What the heck is going on?

A tropical distubance made its way through West Texas last weekend dropping enough rain to put State Highway 380 under water just West of Haskell. We drove through it on the way to Lubbock. This same system then proceeded northward where it met up with the first cool front of the year. We normally get one here mid-August - offically marking the beginning of Dove hunting season (the season really doesn't start until September 1 but it has become an annual occurence so we consider it the "unofficial" beginning of the season. Anyway, (I just listened to a report on WBAP - it said you guys are getting hammered) the sytem is stsill full of energy and the cold front is fueling it hence all of the rain and bad weather being expereinced in Illinois, Ohio and many other states. Feels kind of like the spring tornado season - same effects causing it except the system made it north of Oklahoma City this time. Gotta love it. The weather is perfect here.
