The Oyler Family Blog

Sadly, we are several states away from family and friends. But, we KNOW that they long to hear our mundane stories and self-righteous opinions. Never fear, friends- you can stay informed right here.

"Thank You for Smoking"

We watched this last night. It was a really great satire of American culture...gosh, we've been watching a lot of these lately haven't we? No wonder we are so disgusted with Americans lately.

Anyway- it was really great and smart. I think you all would enjoy it.

Had such a great time visiting. Cameron had fun too. We are looking forward to Christmas. Speaking of Christmas, my Santa list will be up soon.

Have a great day!

Happy Thanksgiving...Kramer goes Krazy

So you all have GOT to see this so that we can discuss over the break.

In case you live in a bubble, here's what happened:

Michael Richards was doing stand-up, and was being heckled. He pretty much went crazy and went on a racist tirade. I'm emberassed for white people. Check it out here (if this doesn't work, search for another video online).

Bluegrass at 403

I've got a pickin' together for Friday Nov. 24, at 403 Warwick. Those that we know are coming are Don & Judy, Steve & Prisilla, Tom & Sandy Price, Justin Riley, and maybe others. Lindsay, tell Cam to bring his harmonicas'. A,C,D, & G, if he wants to play a lot. And Linz, if you have it, learn the Larry Sparks/Rhonda Vincent song 1-800-do you care. Can't wait to see everyone. Dad

COUNTRY MUSIC

Sooo...I had almost lost all faith in country music...with its RIDICULOUS and TRITE lyrics...and stupid premises ("Honky-tonk Badonkadonk).....

But 2 artists have restored my faith-

Little Big Town and Josh Turner.

Check them out.

New Fall Hair

Okay so I need a family vote-

this week I am either dyeing my hair red or chocolate brown. I can decide which, so I need some suggestions. SERIOUS suggestions.... not the stupid bullshit you usually write.

The red I would want to look something like this-(I am very specific about the colors that I want)

and the brown I would want to be a deep chocolate brown like this:

And just as a reminder- I look like this:

SO WHAT DO YOU THINK I SHOULD DO? PLEASE HELP ME.

Funniest Movie of the Year

So...Borat took in 26 million its first weekend at the box office. Cameron and I went to see it last night and it is AWESOME. So hilarious. But it is not for the sensitive. It is pretty filthy, and is commentary on what assholes we are in America.

If you don't know anything about the film, here's a little info:

Sasha Baron Cohen had a television show on HBO called Da Ali G Show. He has these awesome/ridiculous characters, and one was called Borat...a "reporter" from Khazakastan who wanted to learn more about America. In the film Borat, he travels across America and reports on America. It's a mockumentary...but most of the scenes were not staged. They were real. There is even a scene where he meets some Frat Boys from South Carolina who get really drunk and say the most chauvenist, racist, terrible things. And, of course, they signed the contract to be in the movie claiming they "didn't know what they were signing" (they were drunk). Now they are trying to sue. It's so awesome. There was also a Rodeo Manager who was a super-racist, and Borat also visits a Pentecostal church where they taught him to speak "in tongues". It is so awesome. You have GOT to see this movie. Andy and Amy- you will absolutely love it (not like The Aristocrats...I promise)

Go see it suckas.

One more Marley pic

Andy sent this to me and asked me to post it...

Apparently he's not officially a member of the blog? Therefore, he is not a member of the family.

New Marley Pics

Just got these from Amy. I want to show them off!

That Halloween pic of Adia, Max and Marley is freaking hilarious. Marley looks pissed.

Halloween!

Okay okay okay...

So I TOTALLY forgot to post about Halloween...perhaps because it was short and sweet.

So I worked SO HARD on me and Cameron's costumes. I worked for probably a month. And they looked GOOD. He was He-man and I was She-ra. He looked HILARIOUS and I just looked awesome. He also got a hilarious fake spray on tan for the event. Our friend Millice had a party the Saturday before Halloween.

I'm attaching some awesome pics-

The first isn't very clear but it is of Cam and I (and Jackie snuck in there). The second one is of Cam and his buddy Stu...Stu dressed as Jesus. He had a crown of thorns, loaf of bread and EVERYTHING! The last pic is of Cam and his work buddy Sam. I think this one really accentuates Cam's belly.....errr....costume.

So....we only partied for an hour and a half because I was "tired" (interpret as you will). I think someone put a roofie in my punch though. It was embarassing.

More Maroon Pics!

Couple more pics of Cam and I at the game and Cam and I tailgating with our friends Amy and Jimmy.

Aggie Pics

Here are pics from the Aggie game. These are from our seats on the Alumni side. You just can't grasp the sheer amount of people from these pictures. It was nuts. We'll have to go to a game.

PS- When I texted all of you to tell you to watch ABC b/c I was at the game I got this text back from Andy:

"COPS IS ON"

What a douche.

My busy life

Okay okay....so it's been a while since you've heard from me. Well, I've been SUPER-BUSY because my students have been doing "Charlotte's Web". We closed last week. We had 2 daytime performances for visiting schools. They went great and the students/teachers loved them. Our 3 family night performances also went great. Thursday had a light turnout because we were competing with the JV football game (blah Texas) and then Saturday and Sunday had better turnouts. All in all, we made about $800 in admissions. So that is great. It was a great success, especially considering Farmersville has never had a fall play before. Everyone was pleased. Well, except most of my bosses didn't really mention (or see) the show....but nonethless I was proud of myself and that is what matters. That's a whole 'nother issue really....

The past week I've really just been winding down from the show and trying to prepare for the next one. For our ONE-ACT PLAY competition, we are doing Medea by Euripides (greek, old, mom kills her kids to get back at her husband for marrying another chick). So that won't start for another 2 months, but auditions are at the end of this month. So I'm trying to prepared.

This past weekend I went to my first Aggie game in College Station, TX. Cam, of course, is an alum of A&M and I am alum of the A&M system, we consider ourself proud Aggies. From what Cameron had told me about College Station, I had pictured it to be a lot like Manhattan, KS or Stillwater, OK....and I was right. They have a cool bar district and the atmosphere is a lot like K-State or OSU. Except way more awesome.

A&M has a lot of awesome traditions...there are HUNDREDS of them (like kissing your date every time the Aggies score, all of their songs and yells, the 12th Man, Bonfire, etc). So, we went to Midnight Yell practice on Friday night before the game. Basically there are about 30,000 people there at midnight to practice the "yells" that the students do at the game. And EVERYBODY knows them. It was awesome. It was led by the Corps of Cadets (which A&M is pretty famous for). There is also a part in Midnight Yell practice where everyone makes out with their date. That was my favorite part. After Midnight Yell practice we went out in Northgate (there version of Aggieville). Cam's friends own a bar in Northgate, so we had free drinks and fun.

The next day we went and got our Maroon Aggie clothes so that we could "Maroon out" at the game, and then we headed to hang out with friends and tailgate. It was quite a production. Our tickets were pretty far away and pretty high...but we didn't care.

Now let me say this...I have seen college games and even have been to pro games- basketball, football, and baseball.....but I have NEVER seen anything like an Aggie game. There was 85,000 people there ALL in maroon and all cheering and making noise. It was so loud. You can't imagine. I am posting some pics so you can see. The pics won't do it justice, but it was awesome.

So November will be a little slower for me. I'm getting back into the swing of things and doing shows again for the Hub- murder mysteries on Friday and Saturday nights. I'll be at Andy and Amy's for Thanksgiving. Not sure when I'm coming up there, but I DO get the whole week off for Thanksgiving so that is awesome...then Cameron will join us on Friday. He will be with his family on Thanksgiving but will drive up after "The Day After Thanksgiving Miracle" (when the Aggies beat UT). So he will be with us part of vacation at least.

Rest of Thanksgiving will be pretty boring...just shows, work, and stuff. In December things will pick up a bit.

Don't forget to VOTE! I'm registered Texas now, so I've got some important Gubernatorial decisions to make. Sorry Dad, but it might be straight-ticket Democrat this year. Just kidding...I have some independent candidates that I like :)

Hope everyone is good.
